Sale Sharks wing Marland Yarde has been ruled out for the rest of the season after dislocating his knee.
Yarde, who has 13 England caps, also ruptured ligaments during Saturday’s Premiership win over Newcastle.
The injury is likely to end his chances of featuring at the 2019 World Cup in Japan which starts in September.
The 26-year-old has not played for his country since the tour of Argentina in June 2017, but was part of head coach Eddie Jones’ training squad in May.
Yarde’s injury is a blow to Sale’s efforts to kick-start their Premiership campaign, as they are second from bottom after losing four of their opening six matches.
Fellow winger Chris Ashton is yet to make his debut because of suspension after being sent off during pre-season.
Meanwhile, the Sharks have strengthened their front-row options by signing former Wasps loosehead prop Tom Bristow, 27, from French second-tier club Narbonne on an undisclosed contract.
