Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer Franco Harris will join this year’s Michael Robinson Celebrity Waiter Experience, which will be held this Friday at Main Street Station.
The move to a bigger venue comes with an impressive roster of guests.
This will be the fourth year for the event, which benefits Michael Robinson’s Excel to Excellence foundation. Robinson, a Varina grad who won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, is working to increase academic achievement among students. Tickets are on sale now for $275 each.
Longtime celebrity waiter guests Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch will also return for this year’s event, as will Meadowbrook grad and Washington Redskins star Morgan Moses.
DeAngelo Hall will also attend, fresh off his announcement Monday that he is retiring after 14 NFL seasons. Hall has received a job offer from NFL Network, which also employs Robinson.
Other confirmed football guests are Matt Forte of the New York Jets, Andre Branch of the Miami Dolphins, Cliff Avril, Redskins legend Darrell Green, Maurice Canady of the Baltimore Ravens, Dekoda Watson of the San Francisco 49ers and Chris Baker of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Also serving as a waiter will be former VCU basketball star Troy Daniels, who is currently in the NBA.
The event made national news last year, when Sherman made good on his promise of a college scholarship to a student in Robinson’s foundation if she excelled in school that year.
For most fans, their memorable moment with an athlete may come from an autograph or a selfie.
This year’s event will be sponsored by Capital One, and will be followed by Robinson’s annual football camp for youth, which will be held on Saturday morning at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center. Bon Secours is sponsoring that event.
