Why Facebook's earliest efforts to kill off Snapchat completely backfired

Why Facebook's earliest efforts to kill off Snapchat completely backfired

Technology
Snapchat is one of Facebook’s greatest threats, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg may be partly to blame. That’s one interesting theory presented in a new book about Snapchat — “How to Turn Down a Billion Dollars: The Snapchat Story” — that came out this week from former TechCrunch writer Billy Gallagher. He was also a few years behind Snap CEO Evan Spiegel at the same Stanford University fraternity. Rewind to late 2012. Snapchat, which was little more than a year old, was struggling to shake a reputation that it was only popular for sending inappropriate photos. Zuckerberg met with Spiegel and expressed interest in buying Snapchat; but when Spiegel declined, Zuckerberg launched a clone of Snapchat, called Poke. And while it was intended to kill Snapc...

Trump Cites Facebook Executive In 'Fake News' Twitter Rant Over Russian Indictments

Technology
President Donald Trump went on a “fake news” Twitter attack over the Russian indictments Saturday, citing a Facebook ad executive who said the Russians’ “main goal” was not to sway the presidential election.Rob Goldman, Facebook vice president of ad sales, tweeted Friday that he believed the primary goal of the Russian operation named in special counsel Robert Mueller’s indictments was to divide Americans, not to influence the election. Goldman said 56 percent of the Facebook ads purchased by the indicted Russians ran after the election, but the press hasn’t covered that because it doesn’t “align with the main media narrative of Trump and the election.”Most of the coverage of Russian meddling involves their ...

"She lost the old-fashioned way, by being a terrible candidate. Case closed,'" Trump cited in one tweet. In a separate tweet, the President quoted Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein from when he made the announcement regarding the various indictments on Friday. "Deputy A.G. Entering year three, Rainbow Six Siege is still the only true “next-gen” shooter

It’s been over a year since I last played Rainbow Six Siege for any real length of time, and I regret it. Earlier this week I went to play the upcoming Rainbow Six Siege – Year Three content ($30 season pass on Amazon) at Ubisoft’s offices in San Francisco, and to be honest I’d be hard-pressed to talk about what’s new. A lot has been added since last time I checked in, though from what I gather the standout new Operator is Lion—an attacker whose special gadget is basically a legitimate wallhack. More on that later.Mentioned in this articleTom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege Year 3 Pass [Online Game Code]Not knowing the current meta isn’t what I regret though. I have no big stake in arguments about Operator balance or whatever. What amazes me is that, ...

We have just over one week to go until Samsung finally takes the wraps off its new flagship smartphone duo, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Well to be honest, there aren’t really any “wraps” on either new smartphone anymore. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are two of the most hotly anticipated handsets of 2018, so they’ve been the focus of countless leaks and rumors for nearly six months now. Despite the fact that neither phone has been made official by Samsung, we’ve already known everything there is to know about them for what seems like an eternity. Or at least, we thought we knew everything. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+’s release date, specs, price, and key features leaked out ages ago, but it turns out that there are still a few things left unknown.
